Spring Forward

Vernal Internal
Inhale
I look up.
Exhale
Inhale
I reach out.
Exhale
Inhale
I sink in.
Exhale
Tilling
Miles of solitude
Old boot treads
Furrowed earth
Shifting geology
Dirt disturbed
Moans escape
on rotting tongues.
Spring Forward
Bluebirds sing such happy news
Farewelling departed frost
Sunrise dances for the dew
Day prepares its special sauce
A steamy, flavorful fog
Into which buses are tossed
Turmeric cuts through the smog
Like school-time supernovas
Outrunning the morning’s slog
Cocoon
My only hope is
the set of wings
waiting somewhere
in this mess.
Bug Blessing
To the creepy things, the crawly things, the hairy (big and small-y) things:
You’ve been shooed and swatted and squished.
You’ve been stomped and stamped and smashed.
Why do we want rid of you? Look at all that you can do!
I sow these seeds to grow into soft, grassy hugs for each of you.

Thank you for joining me. I am so glad you’re here!
